Joseph: the urban soul!

Collection Joseph 2012

Joseph Ettedgui was born in Casablanca in 1936 and early at the age of 24 decided to change his life: he moved to London after giving up with the lawyer career prepared by his parents to find the European cultural fire in the “roaring” England capital city. Together with his two brothers he started up an hairdressing salon on the notorious King’s Road. He was fond of fashion and following his great passion at the beginning of the 1970s he was stacking striped sweaters in the window of his salon. Those sweaters were designed by Kenzo which would become soon Joseph’s friend. They shared a profound love for Paris and for the Parisian taste. Joseph, whose French origins were revealed by a thick accent, always mixes together in his creations bohemian style and English minimalism.

In the 80′s he created his first fashion collection proposing a total look approach and anticipating, in this way, the work of many of his colleagues. Throughout his life he set up active collaborations with designers, architects, graphic artists and advertisers giving to his style and way of life a global dimension. A visible proof of the philosophy he always would like to build up is the contemporary opening of the first Joe’s café and Joseph store. Many of his stores has been designed by the famous architect Norman Foster.

As a real patron of the arts he always had a profound instinct for innovation a love for risk and experimentation. In a few years he opened many stores and café in London and in other important cities around the world: Milan, Paris, New York, and Tokyo.

Today Joseph brand and the selection of articles proposed in its boutiques are characterized by a sober, informal, understated taste. A special focus has always been on the pant category. For Joseph himself, pants are one of the most difficult category in a woman closet so they should always have the perfect fit. To complete the metropolitan, clean, refined but innovative taste of Joseph collections are enriched with white shirts and tailored jackets.

Arfango: the contemporary dandy with a velvet hearth

Mocassino velluto colori

Arfango - London Boutique

In 1892 Oscar Wilde wrote: “I thought I had no heart. I find I have, and a heart doesn’t suit me. Somehow it doesn’t go with modern dress”. A few years later “the white burrowing owl”, charmingly called Arfango was born in Florence and it would have made the famous poet change his mind. Today the prestigious Florentine maison continues to make famous products like the renown Velvet Shoe, remake of the classic mocassin in silk and velvet, appreciated by celebrities and nobles all over the world. Tuscan skilled craftsmen work really carefully making each pair of shoes through the use of a special technique called Opanka, i.e. using fragrances, waxes and other aromas to give prestige, value and a real “hearth” to each shoe and to make each pair of shoes appreciated by modern dandies.

To be Rock or to be Glam?

Biker boots continue to be a must have item for A/W 2011/12. They can be worn differently to create several looks: together with leggings or skinny pants and oversize T-shirts they create an aggressive rock mood. A new glam chic alternative is to wear them with fluid silk, jersey or laced short oversize dresses, in fluo colors or optical prints.

As Nancy Sinatra sang “These boots are made for walking, and that’s just what they’ll do, one of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you“.

From 22th September 2011 on, exclusively on our Shop Online you can buy Biker Boots collection created by the famous Stylist Chiara Ferragni.

I have to thank a friend that introduced me to these wonderful cupcakes. They were made by Wendy, owner and cake designer at  Wendy’s Cake Art, a company in New Jersey.
As we know, fashion is not limited to dresses and accessories, but it is an authentic form of art that all people can express in many ways.
And these cupcakes definitely represent fashion in the sweetest manner!
